Ingredients

For the Waffles:

500ml Snowflake Cake Wheat Flour

15ml Snowflake Baking Powder

3ml salt

10ml sugar

2 eggs

250ml buttermilk

90g butter or margarine, melted

For the Savoury Topping:

4 slices of ham

4 small tomatoes, sliced

Cream cheese

Chives or parsley to garnish

Method

    For the Waffles:

  • Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. Then add the sugar.
  • Whisk the eggs, buttermilk and melted butter together.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and beat until the batter is smooth, thick and free of lumps. Let the batter stand for about 30 minutes.
  • Heat the waffle iron and spray it well with cooking spray.
  • Pour enough batter onto the hot waffle iron to cover the base. Close the lid and cook for a few minutes until the waffles are cooked through and golden brown.

  • For the Savoury Topping:

  • While the waffles are cooking, heat a frying pan over medium heat.Add the ham slices to the pan and cook until heated through and lightly browned.
  • Remove the ham from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the tomato slices with salt and pepper to taste, and cook for a few minutes on each side until softened.
  • Smear some cream cheese on the warm waffle, the stack the ham and tomatoes on top.
  • Garnish with parsley or chives.
