Cheese & onion bread

 



Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 55 - 60 minutes

Serves: Makes 1 loaf

Cheese makes almost anything better. It doesn’t hurt that cheddar and onion is such a classic combination either.

Ingredients

875ml (500 g) Snowflake self-raising flour

60g (1 packet) thick white or brown onion soup powder

500ml buttermilk

125ml (50 g) grated mature cheddar cheese

15ml About milk

1ml cayenne pepper

Method

  • Sift and add soup powder. Add buttermilk and half the cheese. Add milk to empty buttermilk container, shake and add to mixture. Mix well.
  • Spoon mixture into a lined and greased 22.5 cm loaf pan and sprinkle remaining cheese and cayenne pepper on top.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 55 - 60 minutes. Leave in pan for a few minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool. Serve warm with butter.
