Chocolate self-saucing pudding

 



Preparation Time: 5 Minutes

Cook Time: 30 Minutes

Serves: Serves 4 - 6

An easy and fresh idea for any occasion.

Ingredients

50g butter or margarine, softened

200ml (170 g) castor sugar

250ml (140 g) Snowflake cake flour

15ml Snowflake baking powder

2ml salt

30ml cocoa powder

200ml milk

1  extra-large egg

Syrup

250ml water

250ml (210 g) castor sugar

30ml cocoa powder

5ml vanilla essence

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar together. Add egg and beat well until light and creamy.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa powder together. Add, alternately with milk to butter mixture. Mix well. Spoon mixture into a large, greased ovenproof dish or individual ramekins.
  • Syrup: Combine water, sugar and cocoa powder in a small, heavy-based saucepan. Heat and stir until sugar has dissolved and mixture boils. Remove from heat. Add essence.
  • Pour syrup over batter and bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 30 minutes. Serve with custard or fresh cream.
