Cook Time: 20 minutes

Serves: Makes 8

Most children will relish the opportunity to help mom with baking, and this is recipe where they can be involved.

Ingredients

250ml (140 g) Snowflake cake flour

15ml Snowflake baking powder

1ml salt

160ml (120 g) Iwisa maize meal

30ml sugar

200ml milk

30ml cooking oil

8  vienna sausages

1  extra-large egg

8  thin wooden skewers

750ml cooking oil for deep-frying

Method

  • Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add Maize meal and sugar.
  • Whisk egg, milk and oil together. Add to dry ingredients, mixing well until batter is smooth, thick and lump free. Leave to stand for about 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a small, heavy-based saucepan.
  • Dip each Vienna into batter and gently drop into hot oil. Deep fry in medium-hot oil until golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towel. Push a wooden skewer into each corn dog and serve immediately with tomato sauce, if preferred.

Simple and Delicious

These corn dogs are so good! I’ve used this original recipe many times and it’s always been delicious. I’ve also used precooked thin boerewors instead of viennas and it as just as tasty. This is a reliable, simple favourite of mine.

Corn dog delight

I have decide to try making Corn Dogs & I must say, my kids loved it. For me the batter is slightly too sweet, but they are the real critic's.
