The ultimate chocolate dessert layered with moist chocolate cake, creamy filling and cherries.

Ingredients

For the trifle

3  extra large eggs

100ml cooking oil

250ml milk

500g Snowflake Creations Chocolate Cake Mix

For layering trifle

250ml imitation whipping cream

150g chocolate icing mix (½ of the supplied sachet)

1  tin black cherries, strained (keep the sauce separate)

1  bottle maraschino cherries, strained (keep the sauce separate)

30ml Snowflake Corn Flour

100g glacé cherries

Method

  • First bake the trifle...
  • Preheat oven to 180°C
  • Beat oil, eggs and milk with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds until mixture is a light creamy colour, then add cake mix
  • Beat batter with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds on slow speed until incorporated, then about 4 minutes on high speed
  • Pour batter into two greased 20 cm round cake tins and bake for about 30 minutes
  • Cool completely before using in trifle
  • ... then layer the trifle
  • Cut each of the cooled cakes into 2 cm squares
  • Whip imitation whipping cream until peaks form, then divide into 2
  • Add 150 g chocolate icing mix to half of the whipped imitation whipping cream
  • Mix maraschino cherry sauce and black cherry sauce together
  • Add corn flour to cherry sauce and thicken in a saucepan over medium heat, then cool
  • Layer the bottom of a glass trifle serving bowl with cake
  • Drizzle some thickened cherry sauce over the cake
  • Layer black cherries and maraschino cherries on top
  • Spread a layer of whipped chocolate imitation whipping cream
  • Spread a layer of whipped imitation whipping cream
  • Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used
  • Finish off with whipped imitation whipping cream and top with glacé cherries
