The ultimate chocolate dessert layered with moist chocolate cake, creamy filling and cherries.

Ingredients

For the cake

500g Snowflake Creations Chocolate Cake Mix

60ml cooking oil

5ml distilled white vinegar

300ml water

For your trifle

250ml imitation whipping cream

150g chocolate icing mix

30g Snowflake Corn Flour

150g chocolate icing mix (½ of the included sachet)

100g glacé cherries

1  can black cherries, strained (keep the sauce separate)

1  bottle maraschino cherries, strained (keep the sauce separate)

Method

  • Step 1: For the cake
  • CREATE IT!
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
  • Mix oil, vinegar and water with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds, then add cake mix
  • Beat batter with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds on low speed until smooth and combined, then about 4 minutes on high speed
  • Pour batter into two greased 20 cm round cake tins
  • Bake for about 30 minutes. Leave to cool
  • Step 2: Layering your trifle
  • CREATE IT!
  • Cut each of the cooled cakes into 2 layers
  • Whip imitation whipping cream until peaks form, then divide into 2
  • Add 150 g chocolate icing mix to one-half of the whipped imitation whipping cream
  • Mix maraschino cherry sauce and black cherry sauce together
  • Add corn flour to cherry sauce and thicken in a saucepan over medium heat, then cool
  • Set a layer of cake at the bottom of a glass trifle bowl
  • Drizzle some thickened cherry sauce over the cake
  • Set a layer of black cherries and maraschino cherries on top
  • Spread a layer of whipped chocolate imitation whipping cream
  • Spread a layer of whipped plain imitation whipping cream
  • Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used
  • Finish off with whipped imitation whipping cream and top with glacé cherries
