Quick savoury tart

 



Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Serves: Serves 4 - 6

A quick and easy recipe that will impress those unannounced guests.

Ingredients

45ml cooking or olive oil

125g rindless streaky bacon, chopped

1  medium onion, coarsely chopped

2  celery sticks, coarsely chopped

125g button mushrooms, sliced

250ml (100 g) grated cheddar cheese

5ml mustard powder

30ml chopped fresh mixed herbs or 10 ml dried

300ml milk

60ml (35 g) Snowflake cake flour

2  extra-large eggs

1ml Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  • Heat oil in a large heavy-based frying pan. Add bacon and fry lightly. Add onion, celery and mushrooms and sauté for a few minutes until soft. Remove from heat.
  • Add cheese, mustard powder, herbs and seasoning and spoon into a greased 22 cm ovenproof pie dish.
  • Whisk eggs, milk and flour together and pour over mixture in dish.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 30 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
